Garden Growers: Our organic fruit and veg community

Last week was national allotment week which was yet another reason to celebrate all things delicious that are grown in the ground. We regularly sing the praises of eating organic fruit and veg for its superior flavour and all round wholesomeness. But if it can be beaten by one thing, it’s organic fruit and veg grown with your own fair hands. In our eyes, there’s nothing more satisfying than picking a big ol’ pile of veggies and serving them up that very same day.Unfortunately, allotments are notoriously hard to come by and take an exceptional amount of hard-work to maintain, so acquiring one sometimes just isn’t that practical. But do not despair! If it’s not possible to become the proud tender to your own allotment, you’re more than welcome to join ours.organic-fruit-and-veg-yorkshire

Have you heard about Garden Growers?

Garden Growers is our community agriculture scheme based in Swillington’s historic Georgian walled garden. Being a member is essentially like having your own allotment but without having to do all the work and sharing it with lots of other keen gardeners. Sounds fun, right? For centuries, the Georgian garden has produced delicious home grown produce for the people that live and work on the surrounding land and Garden Growers has carried on this tradition.organic-fruit-and-veg-yorkshireorganic-fruit-and-veg-yorkshireMembers receive a weekly share of organic, seasonal fruit and veg and have the opportunity to come and work in the garden each Saturday. The scheme is a fantastic way for busy families to get out and about and learn the joys of home growing in a managed environment.Plant seeds, dig beds, build walls, pick fruit and harvest produce to your heart’s content, all under the watchful eye of our full-time gardening team – and with a guaranteed crop at the end of it!Whether you’re green fingered or not, the scheme is a great way to save on what you’d usually pay in your weekly shop. In fact, last year our members made an average annual saving of £256 against what they would have paid for organic produce in leading supermarkets. If you’d like to get involved with Garden Growers, or sign up to receive a weekly veg share, then join now or get in touch for more information. Members can choose between a full share (4-6 people) or small share (2-4 people) and we offer one month’s trial before committing to a subscription.
